Mercedes-Benz continues to transform its product line towards electric mobility. One of the new stages was the official premiere of the brand's first electric station wagon, the CLA Shooting Brake, designed on the basis of a platform already used in the brand's March model. The new product combines the technology, practicality and recognizable style of a premium German automaker, and the front trunk has become a significant step forward in the issue of ergonomics.
The second generation of the CLA Shooting Brake has significantly increased in size compared to its predecessor. Its length is now 4723 mm (plus 35 mm), height-1469 mm (plus 27 mm), and the wheelbase has increased to 2790 mm (61 mm more than the previous version). These changes are aimed at improving interior comfort: the overhead space has increased by 7 mm in the rear (26 mm more than in the new version of the coupe) and by 14 mm in the front. The distance for the legs was also increased-by 11 mm in each row.
Luggage capacity has become another important competitive advantage. The main trunk capacity is 455 liters, which is 50 liters more than the new CLA coupe, but 30 liters less than the previous Shooting Brake. The main innovation is the appearance of a front trunk with a volume of 101 liters, first implemented in this line. In total, the total useful volume of the luggage compartment reaches 1,290 liters when the rear seats are folded, which makes the model especially attractive for travel and family use.
In technical terms, the car uses the same architecture as the CLA coupe, including an 85 kWh battery and a claimed power reserve of up to 761 km-one of the best indicators in the class. Two versions are available to customers: the basic version with 268 horsepower and the improved CLA 350 with two electric motors with a capacity of 349 horsepower.
Shooting Brake's interior also shows a step forward. A 10.25-inch digital display is available to the driver, a 14-inch touch screen adorns the center panel, and an optional 14-inch screen is provided for the front passenger, emphasizing the multimedia orientation of the interior. The model is equipped with a panoramic sunroof, which enhances the feeling of spaciousness and bright space inside.
With the debut of the new CLA Shooting Brake, Mercedes-Benz confirms its commitment not only to expand the electric range, but also to reformat the usual car classes. An electric station wagon focused on comfort, long-distance travel and practicality can fill a niche between coupes and SUVs, offering a compromise but advanced alternative.
