On June 25, Special Representative of the President of Uzbekistan for Afghanistan Ismatulla Irgashev held a bilateral meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Switzerland Konstantin Obolensky. The talks focused on promising areas of cooperation in the context of the Afghan dossier, as well as on issues of regional water resources management.
Special attention was paid to the humanitarian and infrastructure agenda, including opportunities to join forces to support sustainable development and stabilize Afghanistan. Uzbekistan continues to advocate for a dialogue platform on issues of inclusive peace process, logistics cooperation and implementation of cross-border infrastructure projects with the participation of Afghanistan.
A separate point of discussion was the issues of rational water use in Central Asia. The parties stressed the importance of a systematic approach to transboundary water resources management, including the development of expert dialogue and possible technical assistance in the field of sustainable water balance in the region.
Irgashev and Obolensky confirmed their mutual interest in deepening cooperation and expressed their readiness to maintain regular consultations at the level of relevant departments. The diplomats noted that Uzbekistan and Switzerland have a significant potential for expanding cooperation in international and regional formats, including through the UN, OSCE and international financial institutions.
