The European Union will take measures to restrict the access of Chinese manufacturers to participate in public procurement of medical equipment worth more than 5 million euros. It is estimated that the new rules will affect about 60% of all government spending in this area.
The decision is aimed at removing barriers for European companies to enter the Chinese market. The implementation mechanism will be provided through the new EU International Procurement Instrument, which aims to promote fair competition and protect the interests of European producers.
The European side expressed its readiness to suspend or lift restrictions if China takes steps to remove existing obstacles for European companies in its market. Experts note that the measures may lead to increased tension in relations between the EU and China.
