Mitsubishi has started developing a new generation of compact SUV Pajero Mini. According to the Japanese publication Best Car Web, the project is at an initial stage, but the probability of a production version has increased significantly.
Pajero Mini, which in the past served as the basis for creating rally cars for Dakar, has long been considered by the company as a candidate for a return to the model range. Earlier, work on the project was repeatedly stopped, most recently in the spring of 2022.
The initiative to revive the Pajero Mini received a new impetus after the commercial success of the Delica Mini model. This key car has taken a leading position in the brand's subcompact line, accounting for about 70% of the demand for Mitsubishi key cars in Japan. At the same time, the Delica Mini is distinguished by the lack of a full-fledged all-wheel drive, characteristic of the older Delica, which did not prevent its popularity from growing.
Technical details about the new Pajero Mini have not yet been revealed. It is expected that the car will retain a shortened base and frame design that corresponds to the traditions of the model. A hybrid technology from Mitsubishi Outlander with adaptation to a compact format is considered as a possible powerplant, but a final decision on this issue has not yet been made.
