President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and King Abdullah II bin al-Hussein of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan held talks in Samarkand, which ended with the signing of a joint statement on strengthening partnership relations. During the visit, agreements were reached, which are recorded in 15 bilateral documents covering a wide range of areas-from economy and investment to education, science and agriculture.
Among the key documents are agreements on extradition, mutual promotion and protection of investments, as well as the establishment of a Joint Commission, which underlines the desire of the parties to institutionalize cooperation and create long-term mechanisms for interaction. An agreement on the abolition of visa requirements was signed, which opens up new prospects for business circles, the tourism industry and humanitarian exchanges.
Special attention is paid to the educational and scientific sphere: agreements in the field of higher education and research create the basis for academic exchange, joint programs and projects aimed at training new generation specialists. Tourism is also at the center of the agenda: the agreement on cooperation in this area provides for the expansion of cultural and business ties.
Infrastructure interaction is supported by protocols on amendments to the intergovernmental agreement on air transport and on the online exchange of preliminary information on the movement of goods and vehicles, which will simplify logistics and increase the transparency of trade flows.
Agriculture has become another significant area: agreements on cooperation in the field of crop production, plant protection, quarantine measures and veterinary medicine have been signed. This is of practical importance in the context of ensuring food security and strengthening the trade positions of both countries.
Important additions were memoranda of cooperation in the field of standardization, metrology and conformity assessment, as well as documents of mutual understanding on religious issues. The result of the visit was a plan of practical measures, consolidating the consistent implementation of the agreements reached.
The signed agreements confirm the intention of Uzbekistan and Jordan to bring bilateral relations to a qualitatively new level, creating a comprehensive framework for long-term cooperation in strategically important areas.
