Russia: Sberbank launches payment via iPhone via Bluetooth without Internet

Sberbank has introduced a new contactless payment option for iPhone owners based on Bluetooth low energy technology. Now payment is possible even without an Internet connection, which makes the service more convenient and accessible for users in different conditions.

This feature is implemented in the updated version of the Assets Online mobile app. No additional settings are required for activation: just install the update and allow the app to access Bluetooth. Payment is supported on the bank's upgraded biometric terminals, which were updated and adapted to the new technology during the year.

Customers can pay from any account regardless of the payment system — whether it is Mir, Visa or Mastercard. Additionally, the loyalty program is saved with the accrual of "Thank you" bonuses.

The technology, which has been internally named "Vzhuh", complies with international security standards in the field of payment solutions. Sber notes that it is also available for implementation by other banks. T-Bank and Alfa-Bank are already testing it, and after the tests are completed, customers of these organizations will be able to use the service on more than 1.2 million Sberbank terminals.

The launch of the new feature reflects the desire of the largest Russian bank to strengthen its position in the field of fintech and offer users an alternative to the usual contactless payment services. Given the growing demand for technologically independent solutions, this step can become a significant stage in the development of digital financial services in the region.
