Uzbekistan: New steps in sustainable rural development projects discussed

Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Uzbekistan Samandar Sadullayev met with Permanent Representative of the United Nations Development Programme in Uzbekistan Akiko Fujii in Tashkent. During the talks, the sides discussed the results and prospects of joint initiatives aimed at comprehensive development of rural infrastructure in the country.

The discussion focused on the current results and further development of two key projects: "Sustainable Rural Development" and " Integrated Rural Development (Phase 2)". Both directions are focused on improving the quality of life in rural areas by improving basic conditions, upgrading infrastructure and implementing environmentally friendly solutions.

The parties stressed the importance of regular monitoring of the implementation of programs and expressed readiness to conduct joint visits to the regions covered by the projects. Special attention was paid to the systematization of practical experience gained, its presentation at regional and national platforms, as well as the formation of a knowledge base available for further scaling of solutions.

One of the central areas of the agenda was the rationalization of resource consumption. As part of the current programs, special attention is paid to the development of water-and energy-saving technologies, including through the introduction of "green" energy in pilot areas. Mechanisms for expanding rural access to safe drinking water, as well as prospects for switching to modern irrigation systems in a changing climate were considered.

Significant emphasis is placed on increasing the availability of information technologies in rural schools, including through equipping educational institutions with digital equipment and staff training. This solution is seen as an integral part of sustainable development, forming the foundation for increasing human capital in the regions.

They also discussed measures to increase employment in rural areas by creating new jobs, stimulating entrepreneurial activity and launching micro-projects focused on the specific needs of each territory. They discussed approaches to reduce the level of migration outflow and strengthen the economic sustainability of local communities.

At the end of the meeting, the parties discussed priority tasks for the second half of 2025, including expanding the scope of current programs and improving the efficiency of implementation. Mutual interest in deepening the partnership based on a systematic approach and sustainable results was confirmed.
