Russia – Uzbekistan : Sovetsky district and Tashkent discuss trade and economic cooperation

The Sovetsky District of the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug is strengthening international ties, considering the possibility of economic cooperation with Uzbekistan. Consul General of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Yekaterinburg Jahongir Parmanov paid a visit to the region, during which negotiations were held on the development of trade and labor relations.

One of the key areas of discussion was cooperation in the field of export and import. Sovetsky district expressed its readiness to supply Uzbekistan with the products of its woodworking industry. The region has rich forest resources, which makes it an attractive partner for countries with growing construction rates.

Uzbekistan offered to supply agricultural and textile products — in particular, dried fruits, vegetables and fabrics. This is in line with Uzbekistan's strategy to expand the geography of export destinations and increase the supply of products from the processing sector.

Special attention was paid to labor migration. Given the shortage of labor in a number of industries in the region, the possibility of attracting qualified personnel from Uzbekistan to construction sites in the Sovetsky district was discussed. This approach is in the interests of both parties: Russia receives labor resources, and Uzbek citizens — the possibility of official employment.

Tourism has become another point of contact. Uzbekistan offered to establish bilateral tourist flows and invited residents of Ugra to visit the republic. According to Jahongir Parmanov, the country is actively developing the infrastructure of domestic and international tourism, and modern logistics and historical and cultural heritage make Uzbekistan an attractive destination for travelers.

The parties confirmed their intention to work out specific projects in the designated areas. The establishment of stable relations between regional administrations is considered as a strategic step aimed at deepening trade and economic cooperation between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Uzbekistan.
