Waymo to launch autonomous ride service in Dallas in 2026

The American company Waymo, which is part of one of the largest technology holdings in the world, announced the launch of a driverless taxi service in Dallas in 2026. The new route will complement existing destinations and planned expansions in metropolitan areas such as Miami and Washington.

Fleet management in Dallas will be carried out through a partner structure specializing in operational management of mobile solutions. In preparation for the launch, Jaguar I-PACE electric vehicles equipped with the Waymo Driver system, which can operate in fully autonomous mode (automation level 4), are already being tested in downtown Dallas.

Residents of Dallas will be able to use the service through the company's mobile app, similar to other regions of presence. In some cities in the United States, self-driving rides are only available through external aggregators, but Waymo's strategy is gradually shifting towards direct interaction with users.

The company demonstrates a strong leadership position in the robotaxi segment, making more than 250,000 paid trips per week in markets with active routes, including Atlanta, Austin, Los Angeles, Phoenix and San Francisco. In addition to the United States, foreign players are also showing interest in autonomous transportation — first of all, China's Apollo Go, which is part of a large technology holding that is already implementing similar projects in China and is considering entering European markets.

Waymo's technical superiority is confirmed by the scale of road testing: the total mileage of the company's autonomous vehicles exceeded 100 million miles on public highways. In 2025, tests are taking place in more than ten cities, including New York and Philadelphia. The importance of this direction for the parent company is confirmed by the fact that revenues from autonomous transportation are officially included in the reporting structure for other investment projects for the first time.

Amid growing interest in smart transportation, the company's Other Bets segment, which includes Waymo, saw revenue grow to $ 373 million in the second quarter of 2025. Despite this, the division remains unprofitable — quarterly losses totaled $ 1.25 billion, reflecting the high capital intensity and long-term investment nature of projects in the field of unmanned technologies.
