Switzerland: Chairman of the Senate of Uzbekistan took part in the Summit of women leaders of Parliaments

The 15th Summit of Women Chairmen of Parliaments of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) member states was held in Geneva, which was attended by a delegation of Uzbekistan headed by the Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, Tanzila Narbayeva. The forum was dedicated to strengthening women's leadership in the context of inclusive and sustainable development, as well as discussing current challenges on the global agenda.

The event brought together women speakers of national parliaments and international experts active in the fields of sustainable development, peace, security and promotion of women's rights. The focus was on both institutional mechanisms for increasing women's participation in decision-making and strategic measures to address transnational threats.

One of the key topics of the summit is the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on women's participation in peace-building, conflict prevention and post-war reconstruction. The discussion covered the results of the 25-year Women, Peace and Security agenda, including identified gaps, remaining challenges and the potential for further development of international mechanisms.

During the second session, participants shared their experience in dealing with new global threats-from the effects of climate change to the spread of digital violence, especially against women. The focus also turned to legislative tools for responding to the challenges of the digital age and strengthening institutional mechanisms for protecting women's rights in the online space.

The summit program included thematic debates in which women parliamentarians expressed their positions on gender equality, inclusion and transformation of governance systems. Special attention was paid to international solidarity and the exchange of practices that contribute to the institutional strengthening of parliaments in the face of increasing cross-border challenges.

The Speaker of the Senate of Uzbekistan made an address in which she emphasized Uzbekistan's commitment to strengthening the role of women in public administration and parliamentary activities. Special attention was paid to national initiatives in the field of women's rights, digital literacy and sustainable development. The summit also included a number of bilateral meetings with colleagues from other countries and international organizations.

Uzbekistan's participation in such forums underscores the country's active desire to strengthen the position of women in the public administration system and promote a more inclusive, equitable and sustainable model of global development.
