On July 28, Deputy Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan Ilzat Kasimov held an official meeting with Song Liping, CEO of the Chinese Limaomaoli Metal Company, in Tashkent. The talks focused on the current status of the joint project in the field of iron ore mining, as well as on the prospects for expanding the investment partnership in the metallurgical sector.
The Chinese side expressed its strategic interest in localizing production facilities in Uzbekistan. In particular, an initiative was proposed to create a metallurgical industrial park in the Tashkent region. The implementation of such a project can not only strengthen the industrial potential of the region, but also ensure the inflow of foreign direct investment, new technologies and the creation of highly qualified jobs.
During the meeting, the parties stressed the need for a comprehensive approach to the project implementation, including additional geological and technical-economic studies, as well as the development of pre-project documentation. Possible parameters of a future cooperation agreement were also discussed, including regulatory conditions, government support measures, and logistics infrastructure.
In recent years, the Republic of Uzbekistan has demonstrated a consistent policy of attracting foreign investment in the manufacturing industry, with an emphasis on processing local raw materials. The construction of a steel cluster with the participation of one of the Chinese industrial players is consistent with a long-term strategy of industrialization and economic diversification.
