US: Samsung to start manufacturing AI chips for Tesla under $ 16.5 billion contract

South Korean tech giant Samsung has signed a strategic contract with the American company Tesla for the production of next-generation AI6 artificial intelligence chips. The total amount of the agreement is $ 16.5 billion. The production site will be located in Taylor, Texas. The release is scheduled to start before the end of 2033.

The agreement provides for the production of high-tech chips that will be used in autonomous control systems and neural network modules of Tesla cars. According to Elon Musk, the actual amount of investment may exceed the initially announced amount, given the strategic importance of the project for both companies.

The deal marks an important milestone for Samsung's foundry business, which has remained unprofitable for several years. The signing of the contract affected the company's quotes: Samsung shares rose by 6.8%, and the securities of a number of its suppliers-up to 16%.

This agreement also strengthens Samsung's position in the global semiconductor market, where Taiwan's TSMC remains the main competitor. The contract with Tesla will provide an additional boost to Samsung's accelerated transition to an advanced two-nanometer technology process, which is a key area in the fight for industry leadership.

The Texas project is in line with current trends of reindustrialization in the United States and increased local production of high-tech components.
