The American company xAI is expanding the use of its Grok chatbot. Now users can run it on their personal computers as a separate application without having to open a browser, which increases convenience and reduces the load on the system. The new feature allows you to do without additional tabs and advertising elements.
To install Grok as a standalone application, just open the project's website in the Chrome browser and use the built-in installation function. After confirmation, the app is automatically placed on the desktop and can be pinned to the taskbar. The launch interface resembles a classic desktop software window, which simplifies interaction with the model and speeds up access.
The Grok chatbot continues to actively develop. The company xAI, led by Elon Musk, is focused on improving the performance and scaling of the model. One of the key stages was Grok training on the infrastructure of the Colossus 1 supercomputer, which includes 230 thousand graphics processors, including 30 thousand high-performance Nvidia GB200 chips.
At the next stage, xAI will use Colossus 2, a new computing cluster equipped with the same chips. Musk presented images of a piece of equipment showing the scale of the system and the technical complexity, including the density of cable connections.
Grok's engineering approach to scaling is focused on high throughput, minimal request processing latency, and the most realistic user interaction with artificial intelligence. Abandoning the unified model allows you to more accurately adapt the chatbot behavior to specific user requests and scenarios.
The decision to launch Grok as a standalone application fits logically into xAI's overall strategy of providing users with intuitive, easy and fast access to a next-generation intelligent system without technical barriers.
