China: Geely tops the list of best-selling cars in the first half of 2025

In the first six months of 2025, the Chinese automotive market demonstrated a high level of competition between national and international brands. The Geely Xingyuan model, a compact hatchback produced under the Galaxy sub — brand, became the sales leader. From January to June, Chinese dealers sold 204.9 thousand copies of this model. The cost of the car, depending on the configuration, varies from 68.8 to 97.8 thousand yuan.

In the second position — BYD Seagull, also belonging to the segment of compact urban cars. Sales of this model amounted to 174.9 thousand units, which is 4.8% more compared to the same period last year. The cost of Seagull ranges from 69.8 to 85.8 thousand yuan. The model was previously awarded an international award as the best city car, which increased interest in it in the domestic market.

On the third line was the electric crossover Tesla Model Y, which in 2024 occupied a leading position. In the first half of 2025, 171.9 thousand units of this model were sold in China. Despite the restyling, the updated version lost to competitors, and sales volumes decreased by 16.9% in annual terms. The price range for the Model Y is from 263.5 to 313.5 thousand yuan.

Fourth place went to the ultra-compact electric car Wuling Hongguang Mini EV — one of the most affordable models on the market, with sales of 171 thousand cars. The top five is completed by the BYD Qin Plus sedan, presented in two versions — electric and hybrid. The volume of sales amounted to 163.6 thousand units, which is 32.2% lower than last year's level. The decline is due to internal competition from other BYD models-Seal 06 and Qin L.

In the second five of the rating are: Xiaomi SU7-the first electric car of the technology brand, Geely Monjaro crossover, BYD Song Plus, Volkswagen Lavida sedan and Nissan Sylphy. These models demonstrate the growing interest of customers in digital technologies, comfort and economy.

According to aggregate data, the top 100 best-selling cars in China for the first half of the year included 64 Chinese-made models. In the first place among brands in terms of the number of models presented — BYD with 14 positions. Geely ranks second with 10 models, followed by Changan (5 models) and Wuling (4 models). A total of 7.2 million vehicles were sold in the market in the first half of the year, of which 4.5 million came from Chinese brands.

Statistics confirm the continued dominance of national manufacturers in the world's largest automotive market. In the context of active state support and a strategic transition to electric transport, Chinese automakers continue to strengthen their positions not only within the country, but also in foreign markets.
