Uzbekistan: Midea plant and new industrial projects launched in Jizzakh region

The Jizzakh region of Uzbekistan continues to actively implement a large-scale program to develop industrial infrastructure and attract foreign investment. One of the most significant events was the completion of construction works and the launch of an enterprise for the production of household appliances under the Midea brand, which has a capacity of 300 thousand units of production per year. The volume of investment in the project amounted to $ 42 million. The company has created 150 new jobs.

The project is being implemented as part of the Zaamin Technopark, a special industrial zone established in the summer of 2023. The total area of the technopark is 400 hectares. It is planned to implement 31 investment projects worth a total of $ 1.2 billion with the participation of foreign partners, mainly from China.

In a short period of time, the necessary infrastructure was built, including engineering networks, roads and logistics sites. The first operating enterprise was a plant for the production of concrete products, implemented by a Chinese company with an investment of $ 10 million. The production facility is already operational, providing employment for 60 people.

At the second stage, production is launched under the Midea brand — one of the key players in the global consumer electronics market. In the future, the plant should become a locomotive for the development of related industries in the region, including suppliers of components, packaging materials and logistics services.

As part of the first stage, 9 projects were placed on the territory of the technopark, including the development and production of building materials, metal structures, electrical and chemical products. At the same time, work is underway to create a logistics center and a training complex focused on training personnel for new industries.

It is expected that after all the stages are completed, the technopark will produce products worth about 5 trillion soums per year, mastering at least 15 new product positions. The planned export volume is $ 70 million per year. The total number of jobs created will exceed 5 thousand.

The President of Uzbekistan, who visited the site on July 22, gave instructions to accelerate the implementation of projects, provide conditions for foreign investors, as well as train personnel and involve young people in new industries.

The second stage provides for the launch of five more promising production facilities. Among them are the joint production of medical and security equipment with Longze Investment Group, as well as the production of laptops, tablets and network equipment in partnership with Foxit. In parallel, it is planned to organize the production of leather and sports shoes, ceramic tableware and chemical products. The total volume of investments in the second stage will be about $ 250 million.

The dynamics of attracting investment to the Jizzakh region shows steady growth. If in 2018 the volume of foreign investments amounted to only $ 18 million, then at the end of last year this figure exceeded $ 1 billion. Over eight years, the region has received more than $ 3.7 billion in investment, over 4,000 industrial facilities have been launched, and the number of enterprises with foreign capital has exceeded 260.

The development of technology parks in Uzbekistan confirms the policy of diversifying the economy, stimulating regional industrial growth and integrating into global production chains. Jizzakh region is becoming one of the examples of how a purposeful policy of industrialization and investor support is transforming the country's economic map.
