digital education in Uzbekistan
The digital transformation of education in Uzbekistan is becoming systematic and sustainable, covering a wide range of young people, teachers and regional institutions. The Digital Education Development Center under the auspices of the Ministry of Digital Technologies summed up the results of the first half of 2025, confirming a significant expansion of program coverage, strengthening of regional presence and improving the quality of training in the field of IT and related disciplines.
Among the key projects is the program "Successors of Muhammad al-Khwarizmi", in which 130 students successfully completed the course in IT and English, having received the corresponding certificates. Out of almost 1,000 applicants who were selected in Karakalpakstan, 80 participants started training. In the Khorezm region, 500 women were trained in programming, graphic design and mobile photography.
Project "One million Uzbek programmers" implemented through the platform uzbekcoders.uz, continues to grow its audience. As of January 2025, more than 571 thousand users were registered, of which more than 327 thousand completed training on the Coursera platform and received international certificates.
Training centers for IT specialists under the auspices of the IT Talents project increased their presence from 506 to 615 institutions in six months. The total number of graduates in the first half of the year alone was over 21 thousand people. The support of 26 educational institutions in the form of subsidies in the amount of 668 million soums provided training for export-oriented IT companies.
As part of the international IT certificate compensation program, the number of recipients increased from 1,001 in 2024 to 1,858 in the first half of 2025. Payments totaled 7.7 billion soums. Additionally, 100% of the certification costs were covered for 155 young people with an English level of at least B2.
The joint project "ACA Navigator" with partners from Armenia covered more than 500 applicants, and the final Python webinars ended with certification for 50 participants. As part of a separate training initiative, 57 specialists are being trained in areas including artificial intelligence, cloud technologies, and cybersecurity.
Serious attention is paid to the Olympic movement. In April, the ICT4Girls Olympiad was held, bringing together about 500 schoolgirls. 12 winners completed an intensive training course, according to the results of which 4 finalists will represent Uzbekistan at the European Olympiad in Germany. In May, the country hosted for the first time the Asia-Pacific Olympiad in Informatics, which was attended by representatives of 40 countries. Of the 60 participants from Uzbekistan, three won bronze medals. Polish expert Kamil Szymczak was involved in the preparation of the international team and organized a 10-day school for 25 selected participants.
The Job&Edu Fest, held in May, brought together over 80 IT companies and educational centers. More than 1,000 vacancies and 800 internships were offered. The fair was attended by more than 1,200 students and young professionals, as well as master classes, presentations and discussions.
In cooperation with the UzGeeks community, four thematic meetings were held in six months, attended by more than 1,000 young IT professionals. An important event was the international DevOpsDays Tashkent – 2025 forum, which brought together 420 participants from Europe and Asia.
The Center also entered into a partnership with the Leader Online platform, launching a free course on cybersecurity. At the first stage, 658 students were trained. Regional activities are expanding: "IT towns" have been created in Samarkand and Ferghana regions, where over 500 young people receive free training.
Via the platform itstudy.uz young people get access to more than 200 lessons on modern professions: from e-commerce to SMM. 35 thousand children from socially vulnerable families were trained. The InfoTeach-2025 forum was also held in all regions of the republic, where more than 5,000 teachers improved their skills in AI and preparing students for international Olympiads.
Within the framework of the "Dolzarb 90 kun" program, Tashkent schoolchildren will have access to clubs on modern professions, including summer modules in the "Barkamol Avlod" centers and schools. Students are provided with the necessary equipment and educational materials.
The comprehensive results of the Digital Education Development Center for the first half of 2025 demonstrate a steady growth trajectory, increased regional coverage, institutional maturity of programs, and a willingness to scale best practices at the national level. Uzbekistan is confidently forming a new generation of digital specialists capable of solving global problems.
