Uzbekistan's automotive industry shows steady growth

Uzbekistan recorded an increase in automobile production by 4.6% in the first half of 2025. This is evidenced by data published by the National Statistics Committee. The total volume of output in the industry shows a steady positive trend, despite global challenges and transformations in the transport and logistics industries.

The key driver of growth was the segment of passenger cars, the total volume of production of which in January-June amounted to 185.6 thousand units. This is 8.1 thousand vehicles more than in the same period last year, which confirms the growing domestic demand and stable utilization of production capacities.

The model range shows different dynamics, reflecting the preferences of consumers and the success of the localization strategy. Cobalt remains the undisputed leader in terms of volume with a score of 73.1 thousand cars. Despite a modest increase of 0.2%, the model retains a dominant position in the market, which indicates the formed loyalty of the audience and the balance of the price segment.

The most pronounced growth was recorded in the Damas model-a utilitarian microcar, whose production increased by 18.1% and reached almost 46 thousand units. Despite the outdated platform, based on the license of the Japanese Suzuki Every in 1985, the model continues to be popular among private entrepreneurs and small businesses, especially in regions where low-cost and practical transport solutions are in demand.

The Tracker crossover shows steady dynamics-plus 6.3%, which reflects the global trend of increasing popularity of SUV-class cars. At the same time, the Onix model showed a slight decrease in the range of 1%, while remaining among the most significant positions in the production structure.

Against the background of strengthening the strategic course towards localization, brands with foreign capital significantly increased their volumes. In particular, the assembly of KIA cars at local enterprises showed an increase of 27%, reaching 11.8 thousand units. This is one of the highest rates among localized brands, confirming the effectiveness of investment and logistics decisions made.

Serious changes are also taking place in the segment of new market participants. Chinese brands are steadily strengthening their positions. BYD produced 7,000 vehicles during the reporting period, while the Haval brand increased production by 6.5 times-up to 3,500 vehicles. Such indicators form new competitive benchmarks for established players. At the same time, Chery showed a slight decline of 0.7%, which at the current stage is considered as a short-term correction.

The diversification of the model range, the growth in the number of localized projects, as well as the rapid introduction of new brands-all this forms a more sustainable ecosystem within the Uzbek automotive industry. In addition to quantitative indicators, the industry demonstrates structural changes associated with adapting to changing consumer preferences and the transformation of the global automotive market.

The development of automobile production in Uzbekistan is becoming one of the indicators of the country's industrial growth and the effective use of the import substitution mechanism. The deepening of localization, expansion of the model range and involvement of new investors create conditions for further growth of the sector in the long term.
