BYD launches affordable hybrid crossover Sea Lion 06

Chinese automaker BYD is preparing to release the next model in the segment of hybrid crossovers — Sea Lion 06. The official premiere is scheduled for July 24, 2025, but now published images and key characteristics of the car. Taking into account the price positioning and configuration, the model can strengthen the presence of BYD in countries with an emerging automotive market, including Uzbekistan.

The preliminary cost of Sea Lion 06 is stated in the range from 160 to 200 thousand yuan, which is equivalent to 22.3-27.8 thousand dollars. This puts the model in the segment of affordable crossovers with a hybrid powertrain and high-tech equipment. According to the set of parameters, the car is aimed at a young and family audience interested in eco-friendly solutions and a functional interior.

One of the distinctive features of the model is a box-refrigerator in the central armrest, designed for four bottles. The system offers both cooling and heating, and the temperature is controlled via a nearby controller. Such equipment used to be found mainly in premium models.

The interior of Sea Lion 06 is designed in the spirit of minimalism with an emphasis on digital technologies. The center console is equipped with a large-format display, the interior atmosphere is complemented by LED lighting. The four-spoke steering wheel emphasizes the geometry of the interior, and the ergonomics are designed for everyday use in urban and suburban driving.

The dimensions of the car are 4810 × 1920 × 1675 mm with a wheelbase of 2820 mm. These dimensions provide an impressive interior space, which distinguishes the model in its price segment. The curb weight of the Sea Lion 06 is 1890 kilograms, the angles of entry and exit are 18 and 20 degrees, respectively, which makes the crossover suitable for driving off asphalt, even if not in extreme conditions.

Technically, the Sea Lion 06 is equipped with a hybrid powertrain based on a 1.5-liter gasoline engine with 100 horsepower, supplemented by an electric motor with 218 horsepower. This combination provides strong dynamics and fuel efficiency, while reducing emissions. This is relevant in the context of countries ' desire to implement environmental standards in motor transport.

For the markets of Central Asia, including Uzbekistan, the launch of such models opens up new opportunities to replace the outdated fleet with modern energy-efficient vehicles. In the context of growing interest in hybrids, especially against the background of more expensive fuel resources, Sea Lion 06 can become an alternative to more expensive models of European and Japanese production.

BYD continues to consistently strengthen its position in the international automotive industry. While major brands are focused on the premium segment, Chinese manufacturers are exploring the niche of practical, high-tech and affordable cars with an emphasis on hybrid and electric platforms.
