China Kyrgyzstan Uzbekistan Railway Corridor
Uztemiryulcontainer Joint-Stock Company and Chinese company Xinjiang Union of Railway International Logistics Co. Ltd We have established a joint venture aimed at developing container transportation along the China – Central Asia route. The new project aims to strengthen Uzbekistan's position as a strategic logistics hub in the region and expand trade and transport cooperation with China.
The official launch ceremony of UTK International Logistics Co. Ltd was held on July 10 in Beijing. The central office of the new company will be located in Urumqi. As part of the company's activities, it is planned to consolidate cargo, receive Chinese subsidies and develop multimodal transport solutions for routes in both directions: from China to Central Asia and back.
The creation of the joint venture coincides with the construction of an important infrastructure project – the China – Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway line. This route is considered as a potential alternative to the Trans-Caspian route, providing a shorter and more stable route for cargo delivery between China and Central Asian countries with the possibility of further transportation to Europe bypassing Russian territory.
A railway corridor of about 450 kilometers will connect the western regions of China with Uzbekistan through the territory of Kyrgyzstan. Most of the route will pass through the territory of Kyrgyzstan, where a wheelset replacement point will be set up at the Makmal station to switch from the Chinese to a wide railway track that meets the standard of Uzbekistan.
Once all legal procedures are completed, UTK International Logistics Co. Ltd is expected to launch the first container shipments along the new transport corridor. This will increase the competitiveness of the route, reduce logistics costs and increase the flexibility of goods delivery between the countries of the region.
The initiative reflects Uzbekistan's strategic policy of diversifying transport corridors, integrating into global supply chains, and building a sustainable transit infrastructure. In the conditions of geopolitical turbulence and reorientation of global trade flows, the new route can play a key role in the transport and logistics positioning of the republic.
