Uzbekistan has updated the procedure for registering citizens and temporary residents

New rules for registration at the place of residence and stay have come into force in Uzbekistan, affecting both citizens of the country and stateless persons. The updated procedure covers both permanent and temporary registration, including accommodation in hotels, hostels and other accommodation facilities.

According to the new requirements, the responsibility for timely registration of residents is assigned to the owners of housing or to those who have the legal right to dispose of residential premises. This means that every case of settlement — whether on a permanent or temporary basis-must be officially recorded.

For temporary accommodation facilities, such as hotels, guest houses and hostels, a special notification registration format is introduced. In these cases, the procedure will be carried out through the electronic platform E-mehmon, designed to record and track temporary guests.

Special attention is paid to citizens of Uzbekistan living abroad. Upon their return to the country, they are required to complete registration within ten working days from the date of entry. This can be done both in the territorial departments of the internal affairs bodies and through public service centers. The possibility of remote registration through the unified state portal is also provided my.gov.uz.

Registration is subject to current sanitary and housing regulations. In particular, when registering, the minimum standard of living space per person established by law must be met.

The registration reform is aimed at systematizing migration registration, increasing transparency and compliance with sanitary and legal standards in housing policy. Given the growing mobility of the population and the increasing volume of domestic and international tourism, the new system should provide more effective control over accommodation and compliance with the legal regime of residence in Uzbekistan.
