YouTube abolishes the "Trends" tab and increases its focus on thematic charts

The YouTube platform announced the discontinuation of the "Trends" tab and the transition to a new approach in displaying popular content. Instead of a single section with the most viewed videos, users will be offered specialized categories within the YouTube Charts — music videos, podcasts, trailers, and other thematic collections.

According to the official statement of the platform, the decision is based on changes in user behavior. YouTube believes that this approach will allow you to more accurately display current audience preferences and increase the relevance of recommendations.

The "Trends" section has existed since 2015 and was created as a single showcase of viral content. However, with the development of personalization algorithms, its effectiveness has decreased. Instead of a universal list, a system of segmented charts will now be introduced, where the leaders of views are determined within specific formats and genres.

The company also noted that in the coming weeks, a phased launch of changes will begin, including expanding the list of available categories. Special attention will be paid to the music and video content industry, where YouTube remains a key platform for promoting new releases.
