South Korea: Samsung completes support for a number of devices amid the release of One UI 8

Samsung Corporation has officially stopped software support for three devices at once: Galaxy A22 (LTE) smartphones, Galaxy F52 5G and Galaxy Tab S7 FE tablet. This happened against the background of preparations for the release of the new proprietary interface One UI 8, which will be based on Android 16.

All three models will go on sale in June 2021. The Galaxy A22 5G and Galaxy F52 5G shipped with Android 11 and received two major updates each within the established lifecycle. The Galaxy Tab S7 FE has been updated to Android 14, becoming the latest in the series to receive three major OS versions. However, none of the devices received the One UI 7.0 shell.

The discontinuation of support coincides with the launch of Samsung's new line of foldable smartphones. Today, the company will officially introduce the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Galaxy Z Flip7 — both devices will initially run on Android 16 with the One UI 8 interface.

Preliminary technical specifications of new products have already been made publicly available. Galaxy Z Flip7 and its lightweight version Galaxy Z Flip7 FE differ only in the amount of memory — 12/256 GB for the main model and 8/128 GB for the FE version.

Both models are equipped with a 6.9-inch Super AMOLED 2X screen with a resolution of 2520 x 1080 pixels, a 10-megapixel front camera and a dual main module: 50 MP and 12 MP (wide-angle optics). The battery capacity is 4300 mAh, the chipset is Exynos 2500. It is expected that the devices will receive updated support for artificial intelligence and closer integration with the Galaxy AI ecosystem.

Additionally, it is known that in August, the life cycle of the LTE version of the Galaxy A22 will also end-its support stops after four years from the date of release.

The launch of the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Galaxy Z Flip7 is expected to kick-start the new One UI 8 software cycle, which will form the basis for future updates to the Samsung device ecosystem.
