A monument to Sergei Yesenin is planned to be erected in Tashkent

The possibility of erecting a monument to the great Russian poet Sergei Yesenin is being discussed in the capital of Uzbekistan. The project was initiated by People's Artist of Russia Sergey Bezrukov, who said that negotiations are currently underway with the city authorities and cultural institutions to choose a suitable location for the monument.

Sergey Yesenin visited Tashkent in 1921 during his trip to Central Asia. In memory of this visit, a Museum of the poet was opened in the city in 1981. Its exposition includes more than 3 thousand exhibits, including manuscripts, photographs, personal belongings and documents reflecting Yesenin's stay in Uzbekistan.

The project of installing the monument is timed to coincide with the 130th anniversary of the poet's birth, which will be celebrated in 2025. According to Bezrukov, the key obstacle remains the choice of location in the urban environment, but the issue is actively being worked out with the support of patrons. The names of potential sponsors have not yet been disclosed.

The actor expressed hope that the installation of the monument will take place in the near future. He stressed the importance of Yesenin's cultural heritage for all countries that were part of the former Soviet Union, and noted that he strives to help preserve the memory of the poet not only in Russia, but also abroad.

Sergey Bezrukov, who is actively engaged in popularizing Russian literature and theater, has been the head of the Moscow Provincial Theater since 2014. Since 2022, he has been teaching at VGIK, and during his career he has performed more than 70 roles in films and on television. In 2008, he was awarded the title of People's Artist of the Russian Federation.

The initiative to erect a monument to Yesenin in Tashkent is seen as an important cultural gesture that strengthens humanitarian ties between Uzbekistan and Russia and emphasizes the poet's contribution to the common historical and cultural space.
