Uzbekistan activates export via Karachi port: creation of transit warehouse discussed

Against the background of the growing need to expand foreign trade logistics, Uzbekistan considers the Pakistani port of Karachi as a strategic channel for entering global markets. A delegation of Uzbek entrepreneurs held working meetings with representatives of the port and local logistics companies to develop new mechanisms for transport cooperation.

One of the key proposals voiced by the Uzbek side was the creation of a specialized transit warehouse in the port of Karachi for storing and transshipment of goods from Uzbekistan. This infrastructure will optimize the logistics chain, reduce transportation times and reduce costs when products enter the markets of South Asia, the Middle East and East Africa.

Representatives of the Karachi Port Authority confirmed the technical readiness of the facility to receive and process cargo from Central Asia. During the negotiations, data on the current capacity, the availability of container fleets and the use of digital customs clearance systems were presented.

Special attention was paid to potential categories of goods that can be exported from Uzbekistan. Priority is given to building materials, textile and leather products, as well as fresh fruits and vegetables. According to the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan, the Pakistani side has shown interest in expanding trade in these areas.

The Pakistani side announced its intention to open a similar transit warehouse in Termez in the area of the International Trade Center in southern Uzbekistan in the future. Such a step can be a logical continuation of building up the bilateral logistics potential.

Separately, the strategic importance of the port of Karachi as the largest maritime logistics hub in Pakistan, which plays an important role in ensuring the flow of goods in the region, was noted. Launching new export routes through this port can play a key role in diversifying Uzbek exports and reducing dependence on northern and western transport corridors.

Earlier, an international trade center focused on promoting Uzbek-Pakistani trade opened in Karachi. This initiative has received support both from businesses and at the level of relevant government agencies.

In the near future, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan announces the start of practical measures to prepare the regulatory and organizational framework for launching a new export route.
