Uzbekistan toughens fines for violating night silence: up to 5 million soums

New measures to strengthen administrative responsibility for violating public peace at night have come into force in Uzbekistan. The adopted amendments concern both the time frame for the "silence regime" and a significant increase in fines for non-compliance with it.

According to the new order, the night period, during which loud sounds, music, repair and construction work are prohibited, now begins at 22:00 and lasts until 09:00 on weekends and holidays. On weekdays, the same interval applies — from 23: 00 to 06: 00. The expansion of the time frame is due to an increase in the number of complaints from citizens and the desire to provide more comfortable conditions for recreation.

Penalties for breaking the silence have been increased. For individuals, the amount of recovery has been increased to 5 basic calculation units (BRV), which currently amounts to 1.7 million soums. For officials, more stringent measures are established — up to 15 BRV, which is equivalent to an amount of more than 5 million soums. Previously, the sanctions applied were significantly lower and did not perform a deterrent function, which caused concern on the part of local communities and law enforcement agencies.

Strengthening the standards is aimed at increasing the responsibility of citizens for maintaining public order and protecting the right to rest, especially in conditions of dense urban development. The authorities emphasize that the new rules will be supported by an awareness-raising campaign, as well as increased control by law enforcement agencies.
