Lada Iskra Cross, one of the key debuts in the segment of affordable crossovers of the current year, was seen on the territory of an official dealer a few weeks before the start of sales scheduled for July 20. The presence of the car in the public domain made it possible for first-time buyers and enthusiasts to personally evaluate the design and configuration of the model developed as part of the updated strategy of AvtoVAZ.
Iskra Cross is built on the upgraded CMF-B-LS architecture, a platform adapted to the needs of the Russian automotive industry. The degree of localization of components exceeds 90%, which makes it possible to minimize dependence on import supplies and maintain a stable assembly in conditions of external economic turbulence. This also opens up additional opportunities for flexible pricing and technical adaptation to local operating conditions.
The car is equipped with 1.6-liter gasoline engines, available in two power options: 90 and 106 hp. Depending on the configuration, customers will be available with a transmission with a 5 - or 6-speed manual transmission, as well as a variant with a CVT. This choice is aimed at a wide audience: from pragmatic drivers who prefer mechanics, to those who are looking for comfort in an urban environment.
The production cycle of the model is still far from full capacity. In the final week of June, 10 to 14 cars were produced per day as part of a two-shift assembly. This is due to the gradual increase in volumes ahead of the official launch of sales, as well as the need for final calibration of technological processes.
There was an intrigue in Iskra Cross production logistics: earlier there were reports about the possible transfer of assembly to the plant in St. Petersburg. However, sources inside AVTOVAZ denied these rumors, specifying that the car will be produced both at the main site in Togliatti and at the plant in the Northern capital as part of a parallel distribution of capacities. The St. Petersburg plant, a former Nissan assembly base, has been taken over by a new partner, Avtozavod Saint Petersburg LLC. Preparations for the production of Lada models, including Iskra, have already begun at the site.
The appearance of Iskra Cross in the parking lots of dealerships long before the start of sales is a tactical move aimed at generating consumer interest and strengthening the brand's presence in the public field. In the face of increased competition in the budget crossover segment, a preliminary acquaintance with the car can have a decisive influence on the choice of buyers at the start of sales.
