The Earth was under the influence of a coronal hole: magnetic storms are possible

Since midnight on June 26, 2025, the Earth is in the zone of influence of a large the coronal hole on the surface of the Sun. This section of the solar atmosphere, characterized by low density and open magnetic lines, moved from east to west for more than a week, gradually approaching the position of the planet.

According to space observations, the solar wind speed in the affected area increased from 400 to 600-700 km/s, which indicates the exit of a high-energy plasma flow in the direction of the Earth. An abnormally high plasma temperature was also recorded — 400-500 thousand degrees Kelvin, compared to the average background level in about 100 thousand degrees.

Currently, geomagnetic conditions are classified as moderate disturbances. However, according to experts, the characteristics of the plasma flow can provoke weak (G1 level) or average (G2 level) magnetic storms in the coming hours. The greatest impact is exerted by the equatorial part of the coronal hole, where the structure of the solar field is more focused on the impact on the Earth's magnetosphere.

Estimated duration of geomagnetic disturbances — 20-30 hours. At the time of publication, about 10 hours have passed since the impact began.

Scientific institutions continue to monitor the parameters of the solar wind and the state of the Earth's magnetic field. Such phenomena, depending on the intensity, can affect radio communications, navigation systems, and also cause northern lights in the middle latitudes.
