Prospects for development of eco-industrial parks in Uzbekistan discussed in Tashkent

Within the framework of the international exhibition of environmental technologies Eco Expo Central Asia-2025 A press conference dedicated to the project "Eco-industrial parks in Uzbekistan-the path to sustainable economic development" was held. The event brought together experts, representatives of the business community and the media.

During the meeting, it was emphasized that eco-industrial parks play a key role in shaping a sustainable industrial policy, combining the expansion of production potential with the introduction of modern approaches. These approaches are based on the principles of environmental, economic and social responsibility, which makes the project attractive for both domestic businesses, investors and international partners.

The free economic zone "Urgut" and a small industrial zone on the territory of the Ferghana Mechanical Plant were selected as pilot sites for the implementation of the initiative. The project is being implemented in partnership with the Government of Uzbekistan, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ).

Chief Technical Advisor of the Global Eco-Industrial Parks Program (GEIPPKlaus Turkko noted that the project, launched in Uzbekistan a year and a half ago, is aimed at creating competitive and sustainable industrial zones. According to him, eco-industrial parks provide enterprises with opportunities for interaction, sharing resources and services, which contributes to savings, reducing waste and improving energy efficiency. Special attention is paid to cooperation with local authorities in the areas of water supply, waste management and other areas, which allows integrating industrial parks into urban infrastructure.

Bakhtiyoriddin Nuritdinov, National Relations specialist of the EIP project, emphasized that eco-industrial parks are specially managed zones where enterprises, interacting with each other, strive to increase economic efficiency, reduce the burden on the environment and promote social development. In the pilot zones, an analysis of 20 enterprises on the standards of resource-efficient and environmentally friendly production (RECP) has already been carried out, on the basis of which individual recommendations on energy saving and rational use of resources have been prepared. Seminars and trainings on industrial symbiosis and the exchange of international experience were an important part of the work.

By the end of the year, it is planned to hold national seminars to discuss the preliminary results of the project and prepare proposals for improving industrial policies, business plans and technological solutions. Among the priority sectors where active work on greening production has already begun, construction, textile, food industry and a number of other sectors are named.

The initiative to create eco-industrial parks is considered as one of the key tools for sustainable economic development of Uzbekistan, contributing to increasing the country's investment attractiveness, creating new jobs and increasing export potential.
