Apple is preparing a folding iPhone with two screens and a new hinge: launch in 2026, price from $2000

Apple is completing key development steps for the foldable iPhone and preparing to start production. This was reported by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, referring to the company's supply chain data and plans. According to him, Apple contractor Foxconn should start production of the device in late September or early October 2025. The public release is scheduled for fall 2026 as part of the iPhone 18 line.

The foldable iPhone will be equipped with two screens: a 5.5-inch display when closed and a 7.8-inch display when the device is opened. Panels for the device will be supplied by Samsung Display, the volume of orders at the first stage is about 7-8 million units. The design of the smartphone assumes minimal crease visibility thanks to a new type of hinge, which is still under development. The design will resemble the Galaxy Fold, but with Apple's proprietary solutions, including a sub-screen camera.

Given the restrictions on the placement of components, Apple may return to using Touch ID, since there may not be enough space for Face ID. The thickness of the device when unfolded will be about 4.5 mm, when folded-9-9. 5 mm.

The cost of a foldable iPhone, according to Kuo, will range from $2,000 to $2,500, depending on the configuration. Apple plans to release 15 to 20 million devices during the projected life cycle of the model, designed for 2-3 years.
