Xiaomi Develops new Xring chip with Arm's Travis superkernel for record-breaking performance

Xiaomi is preparing to release a new system on a next-generation Xring chip, which, according to a source from Digital Chat Station, will be equipped with a Travis superkernel from Arm. According to an insider, the company has already received permission to use the Arm architecture for its platform, which will integrate the most modern CPU core from the British technology company.

Arm plans to officially introduce Travis in September. The new core will replace the Cortex-X925, offering significant improvements in performance and energy efficiency. According to Arm, Travis provides a double-digit increase in IPC (number of instructions per clock cycle), which makes it particularly promising for high-load computing tasks. The core supports Armv9 technologies, including SME (Scalable Matrix Extension), an extension that allows you to perform complex matrix operations for artificial intelligence and machine learning tasks.

The previous version of the Xring O1 chip, introduced earlier this year, was based on the Cortex-X925. Switching to Travis will give Xiaomi a significant advantage in terms of performance and energy efficiency. If the information is confirmed, the new Xring chip can become the fastest processor in the line of Xiaomi mobile solutions and one of the market's leading systems on a chip.

Details about the timing of the announcement and the technical characteristics of the new chip, the company has not yet disclosed. It is expected that the first Xring-based devices with Travis will appear after the official release of the Arm core.
