Nissan Leaf 2026: a completely updated electric car in the body of a crossover with an increased power reserve

Nissan has unveiled the third generation of its iconic electric car, the Leaf 2026 model year. The new Leaf has changed its format: from the usual hatchback, the model has turned into a crossover with a futuristic design, while maintaining the philosophy of an affordable electric car for the mass market.

The model range includes four trim levels: S, S+, SV+ and Platinum+. Versions with the index " + " are equipped with an electric motor with a power of 214 hp and a torque of 354 Nm. These modifications are equipped with a traction battery with a capacity of 75 kWh. The basic version of the S has a 52 kWh battery and a 174 hp electric motor with 344 Nm of torque.

The power reserve in the new generation has significantly increased compared to previous versions. The Leaf S+ is capable of driving up to 487 km on a single charge on the updated assessment cycle, which is significantly more than the 341 km of the 2024 model. The top-end Platinum+ configuration, equipped with 19-inch wheels, has a power reserve of up to 417 km.

The Leaf 2026 is equipped with two charging ports: universal J1772 connector and NACS connector compatible with Tesla charging stations. Fast charging allows you to replenish the energy reserve from 10% to 80% in 35 minutes when connected to the appropriate DC station.

The interior of the new Leaf has received a significant update. All versions are equipped with two 12.3-inch displays: one is used as a digital dashboard, the second is used to control the multimedia system. The SV+ and Platinum+ trim levels feature larger 14.3-inch screens. The media system supports integration of Google services, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard equipment.

In the top-end configuration of Platinum+, a Bose audio system with 10 speakers is provided, as well as a projection display on the windshield. In all versions, the Nissan ProPilot Assist driver assistance system and a set of modern active safety systems are installed as standard.

Nissan has not yet announced official pricing for the Leaf 2026. According to preliminary information, the cost of the initial configuration will be about $ 30,000. It is expected that details about the price and timing of the start of sales will be announced in the coming months.
