Intel Nova Lake: a new generation of processors with 32 PCIe 5.0 lanes for graphics cards and storage devices

Intel is preparing to launch a new generation of Nova Lake desktop processors, which are expected to debut in the second half of 2026. These processors will be an important milestone in the development of the Intel platform, both in terms of computing power and in terms of I / O. One of the key changes will be a significant expansion of the number of PCIe 5.0 lines, which will allow you to meet the needs of the most demanding users without compromising on the choice of system configuration.

Nova Lake processors will support up to 32 PCIe 5.0 lanes. This is a significant increase compared to previous generations: Alder Lake processors provided 16 PCIe lanes, Arrow Lake-20 lanes. The new architecture will provide more flexibility when connecting high-performance devices. Of the 32 PCIe 5.0 lines, the processor will provide 24 lines directly, and the remaining lines will be implemented by the chipset.

This amount of resources will be enough to simultaneously connect a high-performance video card and up to four NVMe SSDs using the PCIe 5.0 interface. This configuration will allow you to create systems without having to choose between high-speed drives and modern graphics accelerators, as was the case in previous generations of processors.

Intel Nova Lake also promises a significant increase in the number of cores and architecture improvements compared to current solutions. Detailed technical specifications, including core composition and energy efficiency parameters, will be presented closer to the official announcement date. The new platform is aimed at users who build systems for resource-intensive tasks: from gaming PCs with multigraphic configurations to workstations for processing big data and creating media content.
