Toyota Highlander of the new generation will be equipped with a hybrid power plant of Chinese design

The GAC Toyota joint venture announced the start of a new technological phase, marked by the transition to the production of cars with hybrid power plants developed by Chinese specialists. As part of this initiative, the company has identified a strategic vector called the "Big Hybrid Era".

A key element of the new approach will be the transfer of all design processes for hybrid systems and architecture for local models to Chinese engineers. The decision is related to strengthening technological sovereignty and adapting products to the specifics of the Chinese domestic market.

One of the first cars to receive the new hybrid setup will be the next-generation Toyota Highlander. Along with it, the updated power system will be installed on the Toyota Sienna minivan. It is assumed that the new versions of both models will increase the power reserve, but the technical characteristics have not yet been disclosed.

In addition to updating the model range, GAC Toyota announced the launch of two new platforms:

• Platform for small cars (A, A+, B, B+ classes, up to 5 meters long), focused on purely electric power plants;
• Platform for medium and full-size vehicles (classes C and D, up to 5.3 meters long), designed for the use of hybrid power modules.

This transition reflects the company's desire to strengthen its position in the Chinese market, while expanding the share of hybrid and electric models in the sales structure. This new phase in Toyota's GAC strategy also demonstrates the growing influence of Chinese engineering centers in global automotive development.
