Cyberpunk 2077 demonstrated 120 FPS on a MacBook Pro with an M4 Max chip: CD PROJEKT RED announces a new update

Amid growing interest in the gaming performance of Apple laptops, CD PROJEKT RED presented a demo of Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition on a MacBook Pro with an M4 Max chip, during which the game consistently ran at 120 frames per second with ultra-graphics settings. The demo took place at a private event on the Apple Park campus with international press and game content makers participating.

The official resolution of the image output during the test was not specified, as were the ray tracing parameters. However, even in the absence of these details, the claimed performance is a serious indicator for a platform that has not traditionally been considered a priority for hardcore video games.

The head of CD PROJEKT RED in the social network confirmed that the show is timed to coincide with the future update of Cyberpunk 2077, which will be released in 2025. The Ultimate Edition is expected to be optimized for Apple's latest Silicon architecture and take advantage of MetalFX and other technologies integrated into macOS.

Apple is actively promoting the gaming component of the new MacBooks, especially in the segment based on M-series chips. The performance of the M4 Max is close to the capabilities of discrete graphics solutions in Windows laptops, but the cost of the device remains high: the MacBook Pro 16 with the M4 Max starts at $3,500, which makes it comparable in price to flagship gaming laptops.

The arrival of high-performance games on macOS, including projects like Resident Evil Village, Death Stranding and now Cyberpunk 2077, signals the growing attention of major game studios to the Apple platform.
