The Ministry of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Uzbekistan held a working meeting with a delegation of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), headed by Deputy Head of the Department for Fiscal Affairs Shafiq Hebus. The talks were held on June 9 and were devoted to analyzing the current results of the tax policy and developing further steps to improve it.
On behalf of Uzbekistan, the meeting was attended by Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance Akhadbek Haidarov, as well as specialists from relevant departments of the ministry, including the Department of Tax and Customs Policy and Revenue Forecasting. The IMF delegation included leading economists and experts on fiscal regulation.
Reform progress and IMF recommendations
During the discussion, positive changes in the tax system of Uzbekistan implemented in recent years were considered in detail. Special attention was paid to assessing their impact on economic dynamics, investment climate and tax administration.
The IMF representatives positively assessed the ongoing reforms, highlighting progress in ensuring transparency, expanding the tax base and improving the efficiency of administration. At the same time, the foundation's experts presented a number of recommendations aimed at::
- further simplification of tax accounting procedures,
- strengthening equal taxation mechanisms for all categories of taxpayers,
- introduction of digital tools in tax process management.
Special emphasis was placed on the need to continue reforms that ensure the predictability of tax policy and its compliance with international standards.
Continuation of the strategic dialogue
Following the meeting, the parties expressed mutual interest in deepening partnership and developing regular consultation mechanisms between Uzbekistan and the IMF. It was noted that cooperation with the fund plays an important role in strengthening the country's fiscal sustainability, creating a balanced budget and creating conditions for long-term economic growth.
Consultations with IMF experts are expected to continue during the upcoming working sessions, including technical support on tax issues, tax risk assessment, and the development of new approaches to fiscal planning.
Thus, the meeting confirmed Uzbekistan's commitment to institutional modernization of the tax system and readiness for an open dialogue with international partners on key areas of economic policy.
