Tashkent International Investment Forum 2025: Uzbekistan strengthens its position on the global investment map

Tashkent International Investment Forum (TIEF), a key regional economic event organized by the Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan, is being held at the CAEx exhibition complex from June 10 to 12. On the first day of the forum, a number of strategic sessions and negotiations aimed at strengthening the investment dialogue and developing industry partnerships were held.

Signing of a memorandum with the OPEC Fund for International Development

One of the main events was the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding between Uzbekistan and the OPEC Fund for International Development in the amount of $500 million. The document provides support to the private sector of the republic in the period from 2025 to 2030 and was signed with the participation of the Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade Laziz Kudratov.

Infrastructure and urbanisation

Within the framework of the forum, the head of the IIPT met with a delegation of the BESIX international construction group, where they discussed issues of sustainable urbanization and the implementation of international building standards. Special attention was paid to the modernization of urban infrastructure and implementation within the framework of the sustainable urban development program.

EU and Central Asia: continuation of the Samarkand Dialogue

Prospects for long-term investment cooperation were discussed at the session "EU-Central Asia Partnership: A Path from the Samarkand Summit". David Monguzzi, Senior Credit Officer at the European Investment Bank, announced plans to open an EIB regional office in Uzbekistan. EU Ambassador Toivo Klaar noted that internal reforms in the region are increasing interest in Central Asia from both the EU and the US.
In turn, EDF Central Asia CEO Pierre Paul Antenissens spoke about projects to integrate energy markets and the launch of a hydropower project in Tajikistan with full energy consumption in Uzbekistan.

Focus on human resources and sustainable practices

Suez Director General for Europe and Central Asia Paul Bourdillon outlined the significant human resources potential of Uzbekistan and stressed the importance of training specialists in the field of water resources management in accordance with international standards.

Pharmaceutical technologies of the future

The session" New Generation Pharmaceuticals " discussed the prospects of genetic treatments and RNA-based therapies. Alireza Hagighi, founder of the International Center for Genetic Diseases at Harvard Medical School, emphasized the importance of international cooperation to ensure the availability of advanced medical solutions.

Industry and e-commerce

The session "Industry: Unlocking New Potential" brought together experts from the automotive, electrical and engineering industries. Giuseppe Collino, a representative of the Boston Consulting Group, noted the transformation of the industry due to new participants changing their approaches to bringing products to market and digital solutions.
The session on the development of the textile and clothing sector discussed measures to improve the competitiveness, sustainability and export potential of the industry.
Wildberries Uzbekistan CEO Akmal Primkulov emphasized the importance of e-commerce and building digital supply chains as a tool for international expansion of Uzbek producers.

Financial instruments for SMEs

Special attention at the session "Financing small and medium-sized businesses through Sharia financial instruments" was paid to the $100 million EEFU Fund, created with the support of the Islamic Development Bank, the Saudi Development Fund and the Fund for Reconstruction and Development of Uzbekistan.

Creative economy as a driver of growth

The session "Creative Economy: from Cultural Heritage to an Investment Future" highlighted the role of arts, crafts and cultural tourism in economic diversification. Integration of art into economic strategies and support for young creators as a way to form the international image of Uzbekistan were discussed.

Green energy and sustainable development

Statistics were presented at the session "Green Model for the development of New Uzbekistan": over the past five years, more than $20 billion has been attracted to the energy sector of Uzbekistan, 9.6 GW of capacity, including solar and wind stations, has been commissioned. By 2035, the industry will need about 50 thousand new specialists, including engineers and IT experts.

Venture capital and digital transformation

The session "Accelerating Innovation: the Role of Venture Capital in the digital transformation of Central Eurasia" confirmed the growing interest in the region's startup ecosystem. The volume of venture capital transactions reached $95 million in 2024, an increase of 7% compared to 2023. They discussed cross-border investment strategies, the development of artificial intelligence, and the entry of regional companies into international markets.
The forum will continue its work until June 12, bringing together leading investors, politicians, business representatives and international organizations, defining the strategic course of Uzbekistan for long-term and sustainable integration into the global economy.
