Samsung has officially confirmed work on a new device in the line of folding smartphones — the Galaxy Z Fold7 Ultra model. The novelty will be presented simultaneously with the main flagship Galaxy Z Fold7 and, according to the manufacturer, will be the thinnest and lightest folding smartphone in the company's history.
So far, we are talking only about a preliminary announcement, accompanied by a short promo video. The video shows only the general outline of the device, focusing on its thickness when folded. The exact characteristics and parameters of the company does not disclose, but marketing formulations indicate the intention to compete with current leaders in the segment - such as Honor Magic V3 (thickness 9.3 mm) and Oppo Find N5 (8.9 mm).
Samsung has traditionally lagged behind Chinese manufacturers in terms of compactness of folding structures, including in terms of weight and body thickness. The new Galaxy Z Fold7 Ultra, judging by the company's rhetoric, should change this situation by introducing a new engineering implementation of the case and, probably, a redesigned hinge system.
At the moment, it is unclear whether we are talking about a record among all folding smartphones or only inside the Galaxy line. Samsung does not specify whether the comparison is with competitors directly or it is about the internal record of the company.
Details about the device's specs, positioning, and release date are expected as part of Samsung's next official Unpacked event, scheduled for summer 2025.
