Uzbekistan will launch its own satellite into orbit by 2028: the country will step up its space program

Uzbekistan intends to launch the first scientific and technical satellite of its own design by 2028. This was announced by Deputy Director of the Space Research and Technology Agency Mukhiddin Ibragimov in an interview with Kazinform.

According to him, the key stage of the project was sending seven students from Uzbekistan to study for a master's degree at the Kyushu Institute of Technology (Japan). As part of the training program, they will not only develop the concept of the satellite, but also build it, and then accompany the process of launching the device into orbit.

"If the training starts this year, the program will be completed by 2027. The next step is to sign agreements with the launch companies. We expect to complete the project by 2028, " Ibragimov said.

Negotiations with SpaceX and reserving launch slots

Uzbekistan is already in talks with the US company SpaceX, which may become a launch partner. According to the agency's representative, states book orbital slots for 2-3 years in advance, and competition for them remains high. This requires prompt training and coordination.

International cooperation and legislative framework

In parallel, Uzbekistan's participation in joint projects with the member States of the Organization of Turkic States (AH) is being discussed, which will allow integrating the national space program into a broader regional context.

The country's space initiatives are based on a strengthened regulatory framework. In 2024, Uzbekistan joined the international treaty regulating activities in outer space, and on January 13, 2025, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed the Law "On Space Activities", which defines strategic goals, directions of state policy and powers of authorized departments in this area.

Science and technology are a priority

The project to launch its own satellite is not just a technological challenge, but an important step in developing the country's scientific potential and engineering education. Students ' participation in the practical development of the spacecraft will form the basis for the formation of a new generation of specialists in the aerospace industry of Uzbekistan.

The implementation of this project will mark the beginning of a new era for the country in space exploration and strengthening its position in international scientific and technological alliances.
