iPhone 17 will get a screen with a frequency of 120 Hz — but without ProMotion technology

Apple is preparing an important update for its smartphone line: according to industry sources, the iPhone 17 and the new iPhone 17 Air model will be equipped with displays with a refresh rate of 120 Hz, which will be a noticeable improvement over the previous generation.

For standard models, this will be the first transition to an increased refresh rate — in the iPhone 16 line, basic devices were limited to a 60 Hz screen, which caused criticism from users against the background of competitors. However, according to preliminary data, the new iPhone will still differ from the older models-the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max, which will retain the ProMotion technology.

Unlike the Pro versions, the iPhone 17 and 17 Air will not support LTPO displays that can dynamically change the frequency from 1 to 120 Hz. This feature allows you to adapt the frequency to the content, reducing it when viewing a static image and thereby significantly increasing the energy efficiency of the device.

It is expected that the official presentation of the iPhone 17 will take place traditionally in September. Until now, all information about the characteristics of devices is unofficial, but the presence of 120-hertz displays in basic models is already considered by analysts as a strategic step by Apple in response to audience requests and growing competition in the premium segment of smartphones.
