YouTube stops supporting older iPhone and iPad models: the app no longer works on iOS 15 devices

Google has updated the YouTube mobile app for iOS to version 20.22, which led to the termination of its support on a number of previously popular iPhone and iPad models. The new version requires iOS 16 or higher installed, and this update made a number of devices incompatible with the app that cannot upgrade to a more recent version of the operating system.

Specifically, the YouTube app is no longer supported on the following iPhone models: iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone SE (1st generation). This list also includes the iPod touch 7, which was also left out of the upgrade requirements.

A similar restriction also applies to tablet users: now the YouTube app for iPad requires a minimum of iPadOS 16, which means that official support for the iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 4 is discontinued.

Despite this, users of outdated devices can still access the video service via a web browser by visiting the mobile version of the site: m.youtube.com.

This update reflects the ongoing trend to discontinue support for legacy platforms, which, according to developers, allows them to focus on improving performance and security on more modern devices.
