Uzbekistan and China strengthen strategic partnership in science and education

Deepening cooperation in the field of education, science and technology is becoming the most important direction of the Uzbek-Chinese partnership, which has been developing for almost three decades. Thanks to a systematic dialogue and signed agreements, Uzbekistan and China are implementing large-scale joint scientific and educational programs aimed at developing the innovation ecosystem and strengthening human resources.

Another step in this direction was the Second Uzbek-Chinese Interregional Forum, held on June 1-2 in Samarkand, which included a Forum of innovative cooperation in the field of education, science and technology. The event was attended by representatives of government agencies, universities, research institutes and private companies of the two countries.

Sharof Rajabboev, Director of the Innovation Development Agency under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation of Uzbekistan, noted that China occupies a leading position in the global innovation system. In 2024, the PRC ranked 11th in the Global Innovation Index, which was the result of active investment in research and development, technological infrastructure and support for startups.

Razhabboev also stressed that Huawei, Tencent, Alibaba and BYD are not just technology giants, but brands that shape the future. In particular, in 2024, the BYD Uzbekistan Factory, which has become a symbol of industrial and technological partnership between the two countries, began operating in the Jizzakh region.

The history of scientific cooperation spans more than 30 years: in 1992, the first agreement on scientific and technical cooperation was signed, which became the basis for multidisciplinary cooperation. In subsequent years, additional agreements and protocols on expanding the partnership were signed, including the 2024 document between the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation of Uzbekistan and the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China.

In 2025, the Innovation Development Agency announced a new stage of the competition for joint Uzbek-Chinese scientific projects, and the application process has already started.

In addition, with the support of the State Agency for International Development and Cooperation of China, a project is being implemented in Uzbekistan to transform research institutes, including equipping five Uzbek research institutes with modern laboratory equipment. The total investment in the project is $ 8.2 million.

Experts emphasize that strengthening ties in the field of science and education not only promotes the exchange of knowledge and technology, but also creates a solid foundation for sustainable development and modernization of national systems. Cooperation between Uzbekistan and China in this area continues to be an important element of the strategic partnership between the two countries.
