Uzbekistan and the Republic of Korea expand cooperation in the field of digitalization and launch the Smart Factory project

In Tashkent, on the basis of the IT Park Uzbekistan headquarters, an official meeting was held with the delegation of the Republic of Korea, which included representatives of the GBTP technopark (Gyeongbuk Technopark) and Halla University. During the talks, the parties discussed ways to expand cooperation in the field of digital technologies, training IT personnel and developing joint technological solutions.

On the Uzbek side, the IT Park Uzbekistan ecosystem was presented by Mahlie Muksinova, Director for Export Development of Services. She focused on the possibilities of supporting resident companies focused on export and working with international customers.

The Korean side, in turn, presented an initiative to launch the Smart Factory project in the Ferghana region with the assistance of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy of the Republic of Korea (MOTIE). The project involves the digital transformation of a manufacturing enterprise and the creation of a service center that will develop digital solutions and provide technical support.

IT Park Uzbekistan proposed to place the service part of the project on the territory of the country, involving resident companies with specialized expertise in its implementation. GBTP representatives expressed interest in this approach, noting the intention to transfer a number of tasks to Uzbek partners, with the prospect of further using them as an IT outsourcing center.

Additionally, they discussed the formats of joint training programs, exchange of experience and interaction with private and public structures in the B2B and B2G formats. The next step will be to send the Korean side a concept note describing the areas of cooperation. IT Park Uzbekistan will coordinate the project from Uzbekistan.

This initiative was a significant step towards strengthening international partnership and confirms the growing role of Uzbekistan as a promising IT hub in Central Asia.
