Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni arrives in Uzbekistan on an official visit: economy, culture and education are on the agenda

On May 28, 2025, Prime Minister of the Italian Republic Georgia Meloni arrived in Uzbekistan on an official visit. This is the first trip of the Italian prime Minister to the country in recent years, which makes the visit particularly important in the context of strengthening political dialogue and expanding bilateral cooperation. The visit will last until May 29.

As part of the program, the Prime Minister is scheduled to meet with President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, as well as with a number of high-ranking government representatives. The parties intend to discuss a wide range of issues, including trade and economic cooperation, investment partnership, cultural exchange and cooperation in the educational sphere.

One of the key topics of the visit will be the activation of economic contacts between Uzbekistan and Italy. It is expected that special attention will be paid to attracting Italian investment in industry, the agricultural sector, the energy sector and mechanical engineering. Uzbekistan is considered as a promising market for Italian technologies and innovative solutions.

In addition, the agenda includes issues of expanding humanitarian ties. The parties will discuss initiatives in the field of education, including the development of academic exchanges and the implementation of joint programs between universities of the two countries. Special attention will also be paid to cultural projects aimed at preserving and popularizing historical heritage, developing tourism and holding joint events.

Following the talks, it is planned to sign a number of bilateral agreements and memoranda of understanding designed to lay the foundation for long-term cooperation. The documents will cover such areas as investment protection, scientific and technical cooperation, support for small and medium-sized businesses, as well as joint cultural initiatives.
