Uzbekistan and World Bank launch geospatial data development project

On May 19, 2025, the Board of Executive Directors of the World Bank approved the granting of a loan to the Republic of Uzbekistan in the amount of 35 million US dollars. The funds will be used to implement a large-scale project aimed at expanding access to geospatial data and improving their efficiency in various areas of government and economic activity. In addition, the Government of Uzbekistan will allocate about $ 5.7 million in co-financing.

The project provides for the creation of the National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI), which will become the basis for the digital transformation of the public service delivery system. The new infrastructure will allow for the integration and systematization of geographical and spatial data, providing a single standard for access and exchange of information between government agencies and other stakeholders.

The implementation of NSDI will have an impact on a number of industries, including agriculture, environmental protection, urban planning, land management and transport infrastructure development. Thanks to accurate and up-to-date spatial data, authorities will be able to make more informed decisions, optimize territorial planning, and increase transparency in land use.

One of the key objectives of the project is to support sustainable economic growth and create favorable conditions for attracting investment. It is expected that the development of geospatial infrastructure will increase the efficiency of public administration, simplify business access to important information and create new opportunities for innovative development.

The implementation of the initiative will be an important step towards digitalization of the economy of Uzbekistan and modernization of the state management system based on modern technologies and international standards.
