Uzbekistan starts construction of first low-power nuclear power plant as part of energy independence strategy

On April 28, 2025 in Tashkent, during the international industrial exhibition INNOPROM Central Asia, the construction of the first low-power nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan was officially announced. This project has become a key stage in the implementation of the state strategy to ensure the country's energy independence.

The new power plant is designed to play an important role in the process of diversifying energy sources, as well as reduce the dependence of the national economy on traditional fossil fuels. The construction of a low-power nuclear power plant is seen as a step towards creating a more sustainable and environmentally friendly energy system.

According to representatives of the government and the energy sector, the station will be designed to meet both industrial and domestic needs. This will ensure a stable energy supply in a number of regions, increase the reliability of power grids and create conditions for the development of new production facilities.

The project also involves the use of modern technologies that meet international safety and environmental standards. It is expected that the implementation of the initiative will give an impetus to the development of the national scientific and technical base and human resources in the field of nuclear energy.

Both national and foreign companies with experience in the construction and operation of nuclear infrastructure facilities participate in the project.
