Russia has started preparatory work on the construction site of a low-power nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan

Russia has started preparing a site for the construction of a small-capacity nuclear power plant (NPP) ASMM in Uzbekistan. The project is implemented within the framework of an intergovernmental agreement concluded between the two countries and is aimed at strengthening cooperation in the field of energy.

According to Denis Manturov, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, engineering surveys are currently being conducted, soil characteristics are being assessed, and the territory is being prepared for the subsequent start of construction work. These measures will form the basis for the construction of the first low-power nuclear power plant in Central Asia.

According to Manturov, the project is of strategic importance for the development of Uzbekistan's energy infrastructure. The construction will allow to diversify the sources of electricity, increase its reliability and create conditions for sustainable economic growth. In turn, Russia's participation in this project will strengthen bilateral ties and open up new prospects for technological cooperation.
