A large-scale project to create more than 200,000 paid parking spaces near the Moscow Ring Road has begun in the capital of Uzbekistan. At the first stage, it is planned to equip 86 roadside parking lots, which will be able to accommodate from 13 to 14 thousand cars. The pilot launch of the first parking zones is scheduled for March 2025 in Mirabad and Yakkasarai districts. Full-scale implementation of the paid parking system is expected in July 2025.
The company Streetpark Systems, which won the tender for the development of a parking information system, is developing a mobile application for convenient payment for parking services. Payment control will be carried out using tablets and video surveillance cameras. The introduction of administrative liability for non-payment for the use of parking spaces is possible from 2026.
It is expected that the introduction of regulated parking will significantly improve the traffic situation in the city. According to forecasts, traffic congestion will decrease by 18%, and the average speed will increase by 14% — from 37 to 42 km / h. For example, 250 new parking spaces will be added on Said Baraka Street, while the 65-lane section of Toitepa Street will reduce traffic congestion by 20%, and the speed of traffic will increase by 15% (from 35 to 40 km / h).
Over the next three months, experts will analyze potential locations for the construction of multi-storey parking lots near markets and highways. The results of the study will be presented in the form of a presentation, after which the development of projects will begin.
The system of paid parking along the roads of Tashkent began to be implemented in 2021. On October 16, 2024, a resolution was approved on the further development of the system, including the approval of tariffs. Initially, the tender was won by the Balcomuz joint venture, which offered 120 billion soums for a three-year lease, but the deal did not take place. The second auction held on December 17, 2024, was won by Streetpark Systems, which offered 62.93 billion soums, which is 10% higher than the starting price.
In addition to creating parking zones, Tashkent plans to reconstruct 15 km of the Small Ring Road (MKAD) and upgrade 65 km of urban roads. There are also plans to install new bus stops and organize roadside parking areas, which should increase the comfort and safety of road traffic in the capital.
This project is aimed at improving the city's transport infrastructure, reducing traffic congestion and creating more comfortable conditions for residents and visitors of Tashkent.
