Changes in food prices in supermarkets in Tashkent in March 2025

Experts of the Institute of Macroeconomic and Territorial Studies IMTI under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan analyzed changes in prices for 21 categories of food products in large supermarkets in Tashkent in March 2025. The study covered the period from February 6 to March 13 and revealed the dynamics of prices for basic foodstuffs.

According to the monitoring results, the minimum prices for 6 out of 21 products decreased compared to the previous month. The largest decrease was recorded for potatoes — by 19.8%. Yellow onions (by 10.3%), red carrots (by 3.4%), eggs (by 2.1%), bananas (by 0.9%) and sunflower oil (by 0.6%) also fell in price.

At the same time, minimum prices increased by 7 products. The largest increase was recorded for tomatoes, which is due to seasonal factors affecting their availability and cost. Other products, such as wheat flour, rice, pasta, sauerkraut, apples, chicken fillet, milk and sugar, maintained stable prices, which remained at the level of February 2025.

IMTI experts note that changes in food prices in March 2025 are due to both seasonal fluctuations and general trends in the market. The decrease in the cost of potatoes and onions may be due to an increase in supply on the market, while the increase in prices for tomatoes is due to their lower availability in the winter-spring period.

These studies allow consumers to better navigate the current market situation and plan their food spending. In the future, IMTI will continue to monitor price dynamics to provide up-to-date information on the state of the food market in Uzbekistan.
