From March 3 to 6, the international conference MWC Barcelona – 2025, dedicated to information and communication technologies, was held in Barcelona.
Within the framework of the event, the Minister of Digital Technologies of Uzbekistan Sherzod Shermatov met with the President of Huawei for the Middle East and Central Asia Philip Gan. The parties discussed the results of joint projects in the field of digitalization, including the launch of the Remote Services Center, which in 2024 allowed exporting IT services to more than 20 countries in the amount of $10 million, creating 300 new jobs.
Huawei's digital talent development initiatives were also considered. In 2024, the 10th anniversary of the Seeds for the Future program was celebrated in Uzbekistan. The Uzbek team won a silver award at the Tech4Good competition, and 12 students completed internships in Shenzhen and Shanghai. In addition, two teams from Uzbekistan took part in the regional ICT Competition in Saudi Arabia.
During the negotiations, the topic of testing the 5.5 G network within the framework of ICT Week Uzbekistan-2024 was raised, which was an important step towards the digital transformation of the country.
Special attention was paid to the preparations for Tech Carnival 2025, which will be held in May in Tashkent and will bring together the leading participants of the region's ICT market.
The parties also discussed the results of a joint study by Huawei, the Digital Economy Research Center and the Chinese Academy of Information and Communication Technologies (CAICT) called Uzbekistan Digital Economy Overview and Vision 2030.
Following the meeting, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Ministry of Digital Technologies of Uzbekistan and Huawei, which provides for:
- Development of artificial intelligence in healthcare, education and finance;
- Accelerating the digital economy by expanding the ICT infrastructure;
- Training of highly qualified IT specialists and digital transformation leaders;
- Organization of major international events in Uzbekistan.
Additionally, UZINFOCOM and local telecom operators signed memoranda of cooperation with Huawei.
