Elon Musk announced the release of "the smartest AI on Earth"

Elon Musk announced the upcoming release of the new Grok 3 neural network developed by his startup xAI. According to the billionaire, the presentation will take place on February 17 at 20: 00 Pacific time (04: 00 Moscow time on February 18). Musk claims that Grok 3 will be "the smartest artificial intelligence on Earth."

Last year, he predicted that the capabilities of new AI models will surpass the human mind by the end of 2025. In the long run, Musk believes that general artificial intelligence (AGI), which has a level of thinking comparable to humans, will soon surpass all humans combined.

The startup xAI was founded by Musk in 2023. At the time, he claimed that his goal was to create "the most truth — oriented AI possible." Before that, the billionaire was one of the co-founders of OpenAI, but left the company in 2018 due to disagreements. In March 2024, he filed a lawsuit against OpenAI and its head, Sam Altman, accusing the company of violating the principles of safe AI development and excessive dependence on Microsoft. OpenAI denied the accusations and published fragments of correspondence in which Musk allegedly offered to transfer control of the company to him and merge it with Tesla.

The first version of the Grok chatbot was introduced in November 2023. xAI claimed that it can not only answer any questions, but also independently suggest what is worth asking. In August 2024, an updated version of Grok 2 was released, which, according to the Financial Times, was included in the top five AI models along with OpenAI's ChatGPT and Google's Gemini.

Earlier in February, media outlets including The Wall Street Journal reported that a consortium of investors led by Musk offered $97.4 billion to buy the nonprofit organization that controls OpenAI. Mark Toberoff, the billionaire's lawyer, confirmed that the relevant request was sent to the OpenAI board of directors. In response, CEO Sam Altman jokingly offered to buy Twitter (now X) for $9.74 billion.
